St. John’s Gospel in the Light of VedantaThis is the fifth term of our exploration of St. John’s Gospel. Our guiding light is the ‘The Word’, the ‘Light that lights everyone who comes into the world’. We shall begin this term from chapter six of the Gospel in the light of the Advaita teaching expressed by Christ’s words in the Gospel: ‘I and my Father are One’. Journey with us in this powerfully profound and practical study of Christ’s teachings as we discover the meaning of the great Upanishadic statements of the Gospel; the ‘I am’ sayings. The study is easily accessible to anyone who is attracted to the wisdom and beauty of St. John even if you have not studied before or have studied it on your own. No prior knowledge of Greek is expected, though the beauty of both the English and the Greek, made available with the support of transliteration, becomes steadily more accessible as we systematically penetrate the text together. At every step, in a spirit of open enquiry, we are seeking to discover how the ‘Word is made flesh and dwells among us’ by hearing, studying, reflecting and experiencing for ourselves. Starts 9 October 2010, 11.15am – 12.30pm Tutor Rev Dr Stephen Thompson Fees £45 / concession or student £30 Enrol by phone – 020 7034 4000 or on arrival for first session |
