Ths School's choir, Discantvs is open to anyone sympathetic to the ethos of the School and the choir

Discantvs is the Choir of the School of Economic Science.

This group was formed in 1988 by members of the School who wanted to perform music that reflected philosophical principles.  The name was taken from the words of a 16th century motet in 5 parts which ends with the phrase “Cantus et Discantus” “Singing and descanting”.

We rehearse regularly on Friday evenings during the School term, starting at 7.30 pm and finishing by 9.30 pm, with a short tea-break at 8.20 pm.

We welcome new members, with some experience of singing. Just come along to one of our Open Rehearsals, which are the last Friday of each month, and join in our regular practice. At present, there are specific vacancies in the Soprano and Alto sections, but more Tenors and Basses are also welcome.

Our conductor is John-Paul Bowman who is Head of Music at Pinner High School and trained as a Composer and Conductor at Guildhall School of Music.

You can view music events at Mandeville Place on our Events page.
