In 1975 Leon MacLaren was asked by parents in the School to establish a junior school in London. They wanted an education for their children embodying philosophical principles. The outcome was a new venture in education called St James Independent Schools.

From small beginnings St James has grown to become a family of schools around the world. They share a vision for an education to nourish the whole being spiritually, emotionally, intellectually and physically.

In London there are well-established and well-respected junior and senior schools for boys and for girls, from four and a half to eighteen. They are run by a separate charity and governed by an independent board – some of whose members are former pupils. The schools are non-denominational, but offer spiritual enrichment by drawing on wisdom from all the world’s traditions. The pupils are from a variety of spiritual traditions and none. Some of the staff are members of the School of Economic Science. The great majority of the pupils are now from families unconnected with the School.
